i'm generally not a fan of stanley crouch's writing, especially on jazz. however he nailed it in this column on the new home run king.

admittedly i am very biased. also, tonight i got very drunk. i can still say that vin scully is the best play by play announcer in baseball history. joe buck can eat my ass.

this has got to be the most outstanding sports headline of the year. actually it could win best in show, it's that good. enjoy.
mmm, savory. the article is pretty good, but the headline is priceless.

a great column over at espn.com on the steroids/hgh fiasco in mlb. a clubhouse guy turned stool pigeon could make it all public.
here's a quote that sums it all up for me:
"Anyone who spends their hard-earned dollars to attend a ballgame deserves to know if the players are or were 'roided up and if the game is or was compromised. The legacies and career numbers of Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays, to name a few, deserve the same respect."
i hope we find out sooner rather than later who was doing what, and when.

mike cameron needs only a single to hit for the cycle...he's going to get at least one more at bat, most likely two. no padre has ever hit for the cycle before. dodgers are total suckage tonight.

whilst watching game 3 of the nba finals, i am also watching my dodgers get torched by the san diego padres. i'm watching the san diego broadcast through mlb.tv mosaic. normally i'm bummed when i can't hear vin scully call the game. however i lucked out, tony freaking gwynn is doing the color commentary for the san diego broadcast. awesome.

barf....
Link: ESPN.com - MLB - Bonds hits home run No. 714, ties Babe Ruth.
you know what i would love to see? everybody in major league baseball to come together and decide not to pitch to this ass. i mean every pitcher, every time he comes to the plate. don't throw at him, or even near him. just toss four wide ones to him each and every time he comes up to the plate. i don't care what the situation is, nobody on, bases loaded, up by 10 runs, down by ten runs. hell, walk in the fucking game winner, i don't care. that is how bad i believe bonds is for baseball. i do realize that many other players are and have used steroids and hgh in the past, and some probably still do. this record however is the biggest record in baseball, if not all of sports. just walk the punk, that way he stays tied with ruth, and never approaches aaron.
hey barry....eat a shit sandwich and choke on it.

he did it again...nomar is having a great year and some timely clutch hits of late. i hope he can keep it up and stay healthy. my dodgers can't afford to lose any more players.

Marcella Hazan: Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking
amazing...absolutely the best and most helpful book on italian cooking. (*****)
Thomas Mullen: The Last Town on Earth: A Novel
very good book! (****)
Julia Navarro: The Brotherhood of The Holy Shroud
poorly written, maybe it's the translation. obviously a da vinci rip-off.
Graham Lock: Forces In Motion
lock spent 13 days with braxton's quartet on tour in england. i read it about ten years ago, sort of. i decided to put some real time into it this time. (****)
