according to the pope: abortion, birth control and same-sex marriage are threats to world peace. what the fuck planet is he from?
side note: apparently priests molesting children is not a threat, or a concern to the vatican.

apparently pope benny has decided that pro-choice politicians should not be excommunicated. they will however be denied communion. as a "recovering" catholic i have a few thoughts.
the cornerstone of the catholic faith is the sacrament of the eucharist. it is what differentiates the catholic faith from most other christian denominations. it is the one truly communal ritual in the church. excluding these politicians from taking communion is in my opinon, akin to excommunication. if you can't take part in the cornerstone ritual of the church, why bother?
another thought: how many priests guilty of sexual misconduct with young boys and girls have been excommunicated? how many have been denied communion? i don't know the numbers for sure, but i'm pretty sure it's very close to zero. i've purged a whole lot of my catechism over the years. however, i'm positive sexual molestation is a mortal sin. a priest can commit a mortal sin and be moved to another parish while the church throws money at the families of victims. a politician runs on a pro-choice platform and they are denied the most important sacrament in the church. somehow i don't think the two punishments equate.
